Would this be an acceptable male name?

My mothers middle name is Rena'. I was her first born daughter so my middle name is Rena'. I have always wanted to give my first daughter the middle name Rena' (pronounced Renee). Well, I have two sons and I am pregnant with another boy. This will be our last child. We were thinking of naming him Pierre Rena' (going with the whole French thing). Is this too feminine?

Would this be an acceptable male name?
I think it's perfectly acceptable... You might want to change it to Rene, though. THat is the French version, and will be more widely accepted. I don't think it's feminine at all... it's actually a somewhat common french boy's name. Kudos to you for wanting to honor your mom like that!!
Reply:In my opinion yes (too fem). ...one of those names would be great but together its too fem.
Reply:I don't think the name Pierre is feminine so with the middle name Rena it would be fine. Of course think into the future and he may get teased during those school years but a good friend of mine has the middle name of Rudolph and he made it through.
Reply:I went to high school with a guy named Rene who I was close friends with I never heard anyone making comments about it being feminine. Anyway it will be his middle name how many people will really know it anyway.
Reply:Renee can be either a girl or boy name. The way you are spelling it though is very feminine. I'd say if you want this name for a boy spell it Renee and it will be fine.
Reply:Honestly, I don't really like it for a male name, however if you really want to use that name and it would be his middle name, then do it. When it comes down to it, the best opinion is yours since many people will have many different answers on it.
Reply:Pierre Renn茅e

Or Just Pierre Ren茅e.

I think that looks masculine.

It sounds absolutely wonderful together!

I even think taking off the second 'e' would work too.
Reply:I like it!!!
Reply:Do your other sons have French first names? If so, Pierre is fine. If your other sons are Jim Bob and Wally, I'd say that Pierre would feel like the odd one out.

I do think that you should opt for Rene for your son. Accents don't always appear on official documents and records, and are not always understood by native English speakers. And, honestly, my French isn't fabulous, but it's not awful, either, and I've never come across Rena' - it's always Rene/Renee. You've stayed close enough to honor your mother, but have given him a clearly masculine name.
Reply:yeah uh if u want rena or something similar as his middle name then u gotta gat a dif first name or ppl will say he's gay or something when he gets older yeah..

try something like uh: Jonathon Renee (thats ok)

and by the way i would sugges try maybe giving him four names just in case he doesnt like his first or second (or third)

so uh ex: Jonathon _______ Renee(Renne) last name

or uh Jonathon Renee (Renne) ________ last name
Reply:Pierre Rena is good, i also like Benjamin Rena. please keep in mind that he will not be getting called Pierre Rena every day, only Pierre. if you think of the name in that context you see that it is not too feminine. you are honouring a family name with Rena so i say go for it and name him Pierre Rena.
Reply:In my opinion yes. My friends named there daughter avery after her grandfather and she swear that when she's old enough she is going to legally switch her name. I think you should leave rena' as his middle name but come up with a different first name.
Reply:well it sounds too feminine to me (but that's just my opinion).

u call change it to Rene or Renee or Rayce.

They're all male french names
Reply:if it's french no because i studied in france for four years and that was one of the common ones... but i would do it if you live in the US b/c he'll made fun of...try your father's name, never know you might get a girl ;)
Reply:No, It sounds like dog food. Purina!
Reply:If you spell it Rene it is perfectly acceptable. Rene is the spelling for the French male name.

I would not spell it Rena. It looks way too girly.

Good luck with your sons!
Reply:Sounds cute to me!
Reply:Maybe if you changed it a little, like "Pierre Rene" with the accent over the first e.
Reply:Rena sounds like a woman and Pierre is okay.
Reply:I honestly think that Pierre Ren茅 is a gorgeous name. I just think you need to change to spelling to the more maculine Ren茅 (with only one e as Ren茅e is the feminine).

I think that it is a special tradition to keep up, and I don't think that Pierre Ren茅is too feminine at all. But then, I did used to live in France as a child, so that might be why it sounds manly to me.

I think that your son will appreciate having a family name, and it is not like anyone really uses their middle name very often.

Call him Pierre Ren茅 and be happy with your choice!
