Is Kitty a bad name for a male tabby cat?

I was 9 when I got him (I'm 23 now so he's an old man) and it was the best I could do. Whenever I mention his name people laugh at me (one of them called her dog Lucky, very original), I thinks its perfectly acceptable name for a 9 year old to call her first pet. What do you think? My other cat is a ginger female named Flame.

I think it's perfect! When I was 11, I got my first cat, and that's what I named mine!! Everyone thought that it was stupid, but I didn't care, and neither should you!

Reply:calilling a cat Kitty male at that,as long as it comes when you call it does it matter he doesn't care and no one else should. Frank Zappa named his son Dewzil go figure and that name came from Zappas toe

Reply:Its a fine name. I think 99% of cat owners call their cats Kitty more than anything else anyway..I bet your Cat comes everytime you call him!

yes it is acceptable for a 9yr old to call her cat kitty its his name and he responds to it so he's not bothered, My sister in-law had a budgie called Waffle after the quiz show, cos he never shut up while it was on.

I have a female cat named Jr. We called her Wildcat, after a former friend, and I shortened it to Jr. When she got bigger, we could tell she was a girl! (She was abandoned at two weeks, and we had to handfeed her.)





She comes running when we call "Junior". It works.
Reply:Well I think that people just expect him to have a more masculine name, my brother named our cat when he was little and he named him Spanky sp when he had to do a project for school he put his name as Tiger, so when you are a little kid its ok, but then when you get older it sounds kinda wimpy, but as long as you and especially your cat are ok with the name, then to heck with what everyone thinks. After all a rose by any other name would still smell just as sweet!

Reply:I think Kitty is a fine name, for you as a 9 year old, to have named your cat. I mean, what do people expect, you were only 9 years old. Maybe as you got older, you could have started calling him Kit. I am sure you wouldn't want him to feel embarrassed, because he does have a slightly feminine name, around the other neighborhood cats. Kit is a more Masculine sounding name, for an older male cat. Even cats can experience moments of embarrassment, amongst their peers. We as humans, need to be sensitive to our feline friends.
Reply:For a nine-year old, I say fine. If you were to name a male kitten "kitty" at your advanced age of "23", then I'd say, "Egads, now we're all doomed!" lol

Reply:I like it.. I think that there is nothing wrong with naming your first cat kitty or cat or whatever I hate when people name their animals after people names like bob or something it sounds silly.

Reply:Even though the name isn't all that original I think that it's really cute because it reflects your childhood days. Don't let anyone make you ashamed of the name because that's not even what matters. The coolest cat in the world could be named ding dong and it would still be the coolest cat in the world!
