I'm thinking about naming my new puppy mocha. Is that a female's name or a male's name?

Or can it be both?

I've seen some weird names for boys, like "Fran" for example. Lol. So, if you have a male dog - it's okay to name him Mocha. Lol.
Reply:I tend to think of it as a more feminine name, but really it is neutral and could work for either gender. There's nothing wrong with giving an animal a name that most people would think is more suited for the other gender. I work for a vet and we have more than one male cat named "Sasha" even though it is generally considered a "girl's" name in this country (it IS in fact historically a boy's name, as was Ashley and several other very common "girls" names that came into vogue during the Victorian era when it was popular to give girls strong "boy's" names). You just have to be prepared for strangers to assume that your pet is a girl if you choose a "feminine" name for a male pet.

U can call whatever u like...It can be a female or male...But DO name your dog 2 syllabus ..because when u train your puppy like SIT , NO , WAIT , down ,Come.All these are command instructions to puppy.This will not confuse the dog with 1 syllabus words as command and 2 syllabus as the dog name . SO when you name your dog 2 syllabus ,the dog will clearly know that that my name.


Whatever it is ..MUST LOVE YOUR DOG and give your dog a lifetime...I seen alot of people give up thier dog easily..

Serious or silly, evocative or ironic--whatever you decide to christen your dog, it better be something you're comfortable both printing on veterinary forms as well as yelling at the top of your lungs from the other side of the park.

Reply:umm ya mocha is a female name but it depends on what kind of dog it is because like some dogs like boxers or something fit the name mocha with a male. my dad used to have a blackish brownish lab named mocha and it was a girl

Reply:Oh cool! My puppy is named Mocha too! My pup is a female, but I guess I could see it as a boy name too. But if it was a "muscle dog", and it was a boy, maybe Mocha wouldn't be the best name.. :P
