Do you think the name Maddox is more male or female?

We are thinking of naming our second son Maddox. We really like the name but some people are stating that it is being used as a girls name. We really want a boys name that isname bi gender. We want our son to know that he has a strong male name. I have never heard of a female Maddox, have you? Any comments greatly appreciated.

Do you think the name Maddox is more male or female?
Male. Very cute!
Reply:Male.
Reply:Male for sure.
Reply:sounds male to me, though i've never known anyone by that name.
Reply:Maddox is a strong male name.
Reply:Maddox is definitely a male name. I like it a lot. Use it if you want to. Its your kid.
Reply:Maddison is female, but Maddox seems very masculine to me.
Reply:Male.
Reply:Male
Reply:No I haven't.. geez.. it's a very strong name for a little man and also cute.. a bonus.. I'd go for it..

Good luck and congrats!
Reply:Not sure where those people were getting their info, but Maddox is fairly common for boys -- the 235th most popular name of 2006 -- but not even IN the top 1000 for girls! I think that one's pretty safe.

My only concern would be the celeb association, but if that doesn't bother you and you absolutely love the name, I really don't see it becoming a common crossover anytime soon. ;)

Hope that helps!
Reply:Male. And that's Angelina Jolie's sons' name.
Reply:I have never heard of a female with the name Maddox. I suppose it can be used for both. Any name can really.

Reply:i think its male but you can look it up online on different baby names sites that say either male, female or both.

why would you name a girl maddox

oh and btw its Angelina Jolie's son (6 years old)
Reply:It sounds male to me. I have heard the name as a last name but not a first name. There is a Greg Maddox a pitcher for the San Diego Padres
Reply:never heard of maddox for a female. i think it's a great name for a boy!
Reply:I would think of Maddox for a boy too. Madison is being used as a boy or girl name, but I've never heard of a girl being named Maddox. I'd hate it as a girl name. I'd say Maddox is for boys only. It's very very strong sounding. If you wanted to change it a bit, it could be Maddon also. Donny could be a nickname. Maddox, I dont' know what a nickname could be. I'd hate to think Ox! Good luck!
Reply:Well there is the actor Leslie Neilson. He's hilarious and manly all at once. I had a boss named Lonnie when I worked at Kit Manufacturing but he was a jerk. Then there is Tony, (short for Tonya for s most of the time), and I have met plenty of strong-willed men and women Tonys. Then I have met some male construction contractors named Carrie.

Now, as for Maddox, it is definitely a MALE name. Tell the yahoos that say it to the contrary, that they are delusional and dancing with pink elephants.

Maddox is a Welsh surname meaning "son of MADOC". And Madoc is possibly derived from the Welsh word meaning mad "fortunate" combined with a diminutive suffix.
Reply:it is a boys name those people must be crazy if they want the name to be maddox for a girl!
Reply:Maddox is very masculine sounding and anyone who names their daughter that is just going out of their way to try and be different. I have never met a female Maddox. Although it rhymes with paddocks, which isn't too nice.
Reply:no way it麓s female name cuz i know a pravte school only for gurls and its name is madox oh hell girls in there are so damn cute
